Yuri Sabatini is a world-class lyric tenor who has performed for distinguished audiences in prestigious historical venues throughout UK, Germany, Poland, France and Italy.

Acclaimed for his warm Belcanto technique, Yuri has performed principal roles with various opera companies across the UK, such as Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, Elvino in Bellini’s La Sonnambula, Arturo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Malcolm in Verdi’s Macbeth, Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme and Don Jose in Bizet’s Carmen.

Until Sunday 30 May | Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, London

April To mark its 25th anniversary, the Estorick Collection presents an exhibition of works by the major 20th-century artist Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964). For the first time, the entire Morandi collection from Italy’s Magnani-Rocca Foundation will be shown together in the UK. Featuring 50 works spanning the artist’s career, it includes oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints. The Estorick’s own collection of works by Morandi will also be on display at the museum.

HGO presents: Agrippina – The coronation that goes wrong!   

A talk by David Conway (HGO) about Handel’s opera, composed in 1709 to Cardinal Grimani’s libretto, and opera theatre in Venice in his period, on the occasion of the forthcoming production of Agrippina, to be performed in the original Italian and with a period orchestra, at Jackson’s Lane Theatre (13-21May).
To follow, a recital of music from the opera, introduced by HGO’s production director Ashley Pearsonand music director Thomas Payne.

The British-Italian Society and the Society for Italian Studies have announced the latest winners of the biennial BIS Prizes.

The winner of the 2021 Postgraduate Prize (£500) is Dr Claudia Dellacasa of Durham University for her thesis, Italo Calvino in Japan, Japan in Italo Calvino: A Cross-Cultural Encounter.

The 2021 Undergraduate Prize (£250) was awarded to Freya Cazalet of Cambridge University for her dissertation, The Sleeping Guards: Depictions of the Resurrection in Trecento Italy.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the competition again attracted a large number of entries from students at British and Irish Universities on a wide range of Italian cultural themes. The judges strongly commended the winners for producing highly innovative and impressive pieces of work.

The judges also awarded joint runner-up prizes to two candidates in each category. In both cases, two candidates had scored similar high marks for impressive entries. In the Postgraduate category the runner-up award was shared between Dr Anna Lisa Somma of Birmingham University and Dr Maddalena Moretti of Leeds University.

At Undergraduate level, the runner-up prize was shared between Isabelle Ragnetti of King’s College, London and Ella Powell of Birmingham University.
