The Free Italian School – A Lunchtime Lecture, by Andrea Del Cornò

The story of Italian political refugee and patriot Giuseppe Mazzini.

This free lunchtime show and tell will take you to Hatton Garden and through the Dickensian streets of Clerkenwell, amongst the Italian community where, in the first half of 19th century, Italian political refugee and patriot Giuseppe Mazzini established the Free Italian School in London.

Andrea Del Corno is the Italian Specialist at the London Library. He completed his studies in London with an MA in History of the Book at the Institute of English Studies, University of London. His research interests include the Italian Risorgimento, pre-unification Italy, and Italian political exiles in England during the early 19th century. Chair of the Italian Studies Library Group, he is presently Italian specialist at The London Library, where he has been in post since 2002, and Subject Librarian (Italian Literature and Language) at the Taylor Institution Library, University of Oxford.
