Pianist and writer Margherita Torretta will delight the audience with her performance of classical music pieces alongside the Italian-British soprano Victoria Armillotta. She will also delve, together with moderator and journalist Giorgia Scaturro, into poignant excerpts and themes from her literary debut, Rimmel, a novel published in 2024 by Pendragon. Nadia Ostacchini will be reading selected passages from Rimmel.
This unique evening promises to be an inspiring fusion of words and music, a seamless dialogue of melodies and reflections designed to transport guests on a profound introspective and artistic journey.
Beyond Art celebrates the transformative power of art and culture, which not only offers a unique opportunity to appreciate cultural differences but also to connect with others and understand the value of diversity.

ICI London and pianist Margherita Torretta are thrilled to present the life and works of Elisabetta de Gambarini, an 18th-century Italian-English composer, harpsichordist, and singer. Our narrative weaves her personal journey and artistic achievements against the backdrop of a time when women faced significant barriers in the musical world and society.

An introductory presentation will examine the social and cultural norms of 18th-century Europe, highlighting the challenges faced by women in the arts. It will delve into Gambarini’s background, family, and the influences that shaped her musical career. It will be highlighted how Gambarini navigated the male-dominated music scene, earning recognition as a composer and performer.

The introduction will be followed by a live musical performance.

A project in collaboration with The Italian British Society.
