A presentation and discussion of Ambra Moroncini’s book Michelangelo’s Poetry and Iconography in the Heart of the Reformation (Routledge, 2017).
Katia Pizzi (IMLR) will moderate the event.
Contextualising Michelangelo’s poetry and spirituality within the framework of the religious spirit of the time, Ambra Moroncini proposes a thought-provoking argument which reveals how in the second quarter of the sixteenth century Michelangelo’s poetry and aesthetic conception were strongly inspired by the revived theologia crucis of evangelical spirituality, rather than by the theologia gloriae of Catholic teaching.
Confirmed speakers: Brian Cummings (York University) Ambra Moroncini (Sussex University); Adriano Prosperi (Scuola Normale Superiore Pisa); Matteo Residori (Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle); Corinna Salvadori Lonergan (Trinity College Dublin).
